Uchi, goochi, sushi...

and saki, too, for happy hour.

Uchi is a Japanese restaurant in my neighborhood. I have only been there for happy hour, but I have to tell you it is worth a visit. Their food is fantastical, whimsical even, and most importantly fresh. I like their saki. It is raw, unfiltered, served in a box.

I had a variety of items from the menu, hamachi, a spicy salmon roll, veggie tempura. All excellent.

This place  gets very busy. I go early when happy hour starts, but it doesn't take long for the place to fill up. Reservations are recommended.
Some of you long time Houston folks will recognize the building. It was the home of El Felix Mexican Restaurant for years. Of course, Uchi has been totally remolded, but the outside structure looks familiar.

Quote of the day:  Kids are now eating things like edamame and sushi. I didn't know what shiitake mushrooms were when I was 10 - most kids today do. Emeril Lagasse
